Hi!
I am Helena (she/her), principal Creative Arts Psychotherapist based in Athelstone, South Australia.
I am a late diagnosed AuDHD PDA parent myself and raise a neurodivergent, gender diverse family.
Having tried more talk-based therapy modalities unsuccessfully for over 10 years, I finally found relief and help through Creative Arts Therapy processes. Expressing and healing intergenerational trauma, deep rooted anxiety in all parts of life, meltdowns, carer burnout, and processing the ramifications of a late diagnosis and reframing life experiences through a neuro-affirming lens. To finally discover a more authentic, unmasked way of living.
During this healing process I home educated my children and supported them through burn-out. And then undertook a career-changing course of study, completing my Graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Arts Practice.
Kookaburra Art Therapy emerged: a deeply values-aligned, inclusive, nature-based and trauma-informed Creative Arts Therapy practice supporting neurodivergent, gender divergent, queer folk (everyone welcome) to:
reconnect with your authentic self and your values.
feel safe to explore what feels wrong in your body or life, or what needs inquiry or sense making.
gently find ways that nudge you towards more energy and capacity.
find your place in the world and fully inhabit the space that was always yours.
I am proudly registered with ANZACATA, the peak professional body for Creative Arts Therapy in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. This means:
25 hours per year in Professional Development and best practices in the fields of Creative Arts Therapy, Nature based Therapy, and mental health in general;
A stringent code of conduct with a well established complaints pathway; and
like all qualified allied health professionals, regular paid supervision.
