I'm Helena, neurodivergent art therapist. I'm glad you are here.
Kookaburra Art Therapy offers nature-based, trauma-informed art therapy to support curious, colourful humans of all ages.
Neuro-affirming and gender-affirming care for autistic, ADHD, PDA (high masking or not) and LGBTQIA+ folks, as well as those experiencing burnout or processing a diagnosis as an adult.
Art therapy is an intuitive and creative therapy approach that helps you express your feelings, thoughts and memories via making, whether using paper, clay, wire, sand, wool, paint, pastels, crayons, or other materials.
We will search for answers together using the creative process as a stepping stone and as a guide.
Art therapy is a relational therapy approach rooted in neuroscience research.
We use a variety of modalities and mediums - found nature objects, paints, sand, clay, sculpting wire, crayons, pencils and markers, raw wool fibres, paper. Anything can be a medium, and sessions are directed by what resonates with you.
As a gentle, high-autonomy, sensory- and trauma-informed therapeutic modality, nature-based art therapy suits autistic, ADHD, PDA individuals, as well as persons with language or communication differences, social differences, people with disabilities especially well, and also those holding high levels of anxiety and trauma in their body.
Nature offers a felt sense of safety that enables therapeutic content to emerge and be worked with.
It also offers a non-clinical and judgment-free environment.
There is space.
Your senses come alive and ground you in the now, not the past.
Kookaburra Art Therapy practices on Kaurna country in Athelstone (North East Adelaide).
